The short answer

What is a 7-day digital detox?

A seven-day digital detox—sometimes called a phone detox or social media detox—is a short experiment with one scrolling habit. It does not mean seven phone-free days.

How it works + common questions

The StillAcre 7-day digital detox method

  1. Measure before changing. Name the app, moment, and feeling that begins the loop.
  2. Remove one cue. Change the home screen, notification, or physical location.
  3. Protect one window. Choose a specific start and end instead of “use my phone less.”
  4. Prepare a replacement. Make the alternative easier to start than the feed.
  5. Add proportionate friction. Use a Focus mode, limit, logout, blocker, or temporary deletion.
  6. Test a longer stretch. Learn what breaks before setting a permanent rule.
  7. Keep one rule. Drop the theatrical parts. Retain the change you can repeat.

The plan builder applies those same seven stages to your stated trigger and goal. It does not promise a “dopamine reset,” diagnose phone addiction, or pretend every type of screen time is equivalent.

How to make a digital detox work

Make the rule observable. “No social apps in bed” can be followed; “be more mindful” cannot. Prepare the replacement before the craving arrives, and choose the lightest barrier that survives your most predictable weak moment.

durable change = a specific window + fewer cues + an easy replacement + enough friction

Digital detox questions

Do I have to stop using my phone completely?

No. This plan deliberately targets one scrolling window. Necessary calls, maps, work, and accessibility tools can remain available.

Should I delete social media for seven days?

Only if a firm barrier fits your situation. A temporary deletion can help, but moving an app, logging out, muting cues, or setting a protected window may be easier to keep after the challenge.

Is this a social media detox challenge or a full phone detox?

It can be either. Choose the scrolling window and trigger you most want to change. The plan can focus on social media apps, bedtime phone use, automatic checking, or another specific screen habit without blocking necessary calls, maps, or work.

What should a seven-day phone detox schedule include?

A useful schedule starts by noticing the habit, then removes a cue, protects one time window, prepares an offline replacement, adds friction, tests a longer break, and keeps the one rule that worked best.

Will a digital detox reset dopamine?

“Dopamine detox” is a misleading label for a habit experiment. The purpose here is practical: reduce cues and automatic behavior, then replace one unhelpful loop with something you value.

What if I miss a day?

Continue with the next step. This is an experiment, not a streak. A missed day is information about where the plan needs less friction or more support.
